An Artists Journey of Discovery  - Constance Del Vecchip Maltese  tells the amazing and inspirational stories of the early American explores in portraits. She has painted not only the visual interpretations of these great and brave men but has also embellished her portraits with depictions of the important phases of their lives.  Her portraits are a unique study of art and history combined.  Included in the series is also her painting of a journey to the end of the world - a legend with many sailors at the time believed to be true.  (The book is available on Amazon.)

Cipango (the story)  In the age of debunking national heroes by emphasizing their frailties rather than their accomplishments, Anne Paolucci's book Cipango  lends some historical light on the story of Columbus.  She has entitled her book after the medieval name for the island of Japan.  At that time considered an island east of Asia called Zpipangu by Marco Polo.  Dr. Paolucci notes that Columbus's maritime calculations would have placed his expedition directly on the coast of Japan if it were not for the unknown continents of the Americas which "blocked" his way.  The book is a combination of  historical and biographical accounts interspersed with original narratives, and source material.   (The book is available on Amazon.)

Henry Paolucci -  A Conservative Voice For All Seasons is a historical biography of Henry Paolucci written by his wife, Dr. Anne Attura Paolucci.  He is the man that The New York Times called the "intellectual candidate" when he ran for the United States Senate  on the Conservative Party ticket. He was later named chairman of the Conservative Party of New York State.  This book chronicles his life and accomplishments starting from the  more than thirty books he had written and his teaching and political career.  The narrative of his life story  in the book is interspersed with original manuscripts and copies of important documents which spanned his career of more than forty years.  It is both an historical resource and a labor of love from a devoted wife. (It is available from the Intercollegiate Studies Institute book list.)

From Tension to Tonic - The Plays of EDWARD ALBEE  Edward Albee was the leading American playwright of the last century.  He said of Anne Paolucci, the author of this book, that her understanding of his plays superseded anyone else's.  He considered her to be one of the foremost interpreters of his works.  He also credits her with introducing him to the plays of Luigi Pirandello, a Nobel Prize winning author of the Italian theater of the absurd. This book explains for the reader the darkness and depth of Albee's  plays which at times can be difficult to the untrained reader.  To those interested in the "theatre of the absurd" this book is an excellent guide not to be ignored..  (It is available on Amazon.)

Selected Poems - Giacomo Leopardi  Dr. Anne Paolucci has attempted almost the impossible - translating poetry from another language into English and still maintain the poetic integrity of the original.  In this case it was from the Italian to English of the poet whom some have called the Italian Shelly - Giacomo Leopardi.  Paolucci received an award from the Italian government for her translation.  The task was daunting but in the end successful. In her own words she explains that she tries to approximate the clarity and beauty of Leopardi's thoughts. The relationship between the poet and the translator lends to the volume the beauty of not only Leopardi's words but also the translators effort.  Paolucci explained that she tried to : "approximate the clearness and simplicity of Leopardi while respecting the tight syntax, abrupt transitions, and conversational tone." For lovers of poetry and for all others this volume will not disappoint.
